Guineas Goal for So You Think Colt
An eye-catching winner at Pakenham on Thursday, So Si Bon (3c So You Think x Black Minx , by Lonhro) is headed for better races this spring with the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas his primary goal.
Prepared by Robbie Laing, So Si Bon made a late season debut at Flemington in June when slow from the gates but hitting the line hard with a strong finishing second over a too short 1100m.
He then went to Caulfield where a strong argument could be mounted to say he was a good thing beaten despite being some three lengths from the winner.
His barrier manners were better when resuming in the 1200 metre maiden and despite lacking natural speed, he tracked the leaders and stretched out impressively to be too strong.
Nominated for the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas next month, So Si Bon had also been an acceptor for Saturday’s meeting at Caulfield, but Laing opted for this assignment to give him nine days before his next run in the Group III MRC Caulfield Guineas Prelude on September 24.
"We'll go there and see how good he is,” Laing said.
"He's a class colt. He's got a great pedigree, and a big future."
A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase for his trainer from the Newgate Farm draft, So Si Bon was bred by Morning Rise Stud and is out of former smart stakes winning juvenile Black Minx.
He is the second to race and first winner for the daughter of Lonhro, who died in 2014.
So Si Bon is one of a flurry of recent smart winners for champion racehorse So You Think, who is poised for an interesting spring carnival.
