Juvenile Double for Fastnet Rock
Champion sire Fastnet Rock produced a two state juvenile double on Wednesday with an ultra-impressive win at Randwick for expensive filly Amicus (2f Fastnet Rock x Gold Chant, by El Moxie) and a tenacious debut victory at Mornington for Petrology (2c Fastnet Rock x Romantic River, by Irish River).
First to salute was the David Hayes trained colt Petrology, who engaged in a stirring battle with Darley runner Alaska over the final furlongs before forging clear for Damien Oliver to win the 1200 metre contest by a neck.
“He travelled lovely and Ollie (Damien Oliver) got him out at the right time,” said stable representative Bruno Rouge-Serrett.
“He had to tough it out, so he will learn a lot from that and will be much better suited at 1400 metres and a mile.”
A $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Lindsay Park Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft, Petrology is a three-quarter brother to Group I winner and $1.9 million earner Aqua D’Amore being the seventh winner from Romantic River.
The full brother to Petrology will be offered by Coolmore at Inglis Easter next month as Lot 187.
Creating a big impression at Randwick when bolting away to win by five and a half lengths was the Chris Waller trained filly Amicus.
Third at her only previous start behind stakes class filly Tetsuko, Amicus confirmed her potential with a facile win in the 1150 metre fillies maiden.
“I think she’s a chance to be running in some of the Group and Listed races over the carnival, so she need to be put under pressure today,” said a well pleased Chris Waller.
A $500,000 Magic Millions purchase for her trainer from the Tyreel Stud draft, Amicus runs for a syndicate of Waller stable clients who look to have a very smart filly on their hands.
Bred by Makybe and consigned by Tyreel, Amicus is the second winner for stakes-placed Gold Chant, a half-sister by El Moxie to champion sprinter Starspangledbanner.
