Kiwi Stakes-Winner for Fastnet Rock
Fastnet Rock featured with a new stakes-winner in New Zealand on Saturday when two year-old colt Fast Dragon (2c Fastnet Rock x Secret Silence, by Fusaichi Pegasus) took out the Listed Windsor Park Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie.
Improving at his third start and appreciating a step up to 1600 metres, the Bruce Wallace trained Fast Dragon broke his maiden when taking the 1600 meter contest by a long neck.
Passed in when offered by Westbury Stud at the 2012 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Fast Dragon is a brother to Group III placed Albany Reunion.
He is the best of three winners from Secret Silence, a half-sister by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) to stakes-winner Sunrise Silence and to the dams of stakes-winners Royal Discretion, Roulettes and Rock Robster, who is also by Fastnet Rock.
Fast Dragon is the 43rd stakes-winner for Australia's reigning champion sire Fastnet Rock.
Fastnet Rock also went close in the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick where his two year-old filly Scandiva (2f Fastnet Rock x Scandinavia, by Snippets) ran a bold race to finish second to Guelph with Golden Slipper winner Overreach back in third place.
