Kiwi Stakes-Winner for Tale of the Cat
Champion NZ 3YO The Jewel featured with her first stakes-winner in New Zealand on Boxing Day when four year-old mare The Diamond One (4m Tale of the Cat x The Jewel, by O’Reilly) took out the Listed Otago Eclipse Stakes.
Prepared by Steve Anderton, The Diamond One upped the ante to take the 12000 metre sprint one a heavy track by three-quarters of a length as a hot favourite.
Fourth in the Group I New Zealand Thousand Guineas as a three year-old, the Diamond One has always shown above average ability and has the overall record of four wins and five placings from 10 starts with prizemoney topping $70,000.
Retained to race, The Diamond One is a half-sister to stakes-placed The Glitzy One and is the best of two winners for dual Group I winning O’Reilly mare The Jewel, who comes from the family of numerous Group I winners including The Phantom and The Phantom Chance.
The Diamond One is the 93rd stakes-winner for 19 year-old Tale of the Cat, who is now based permanently in the US after many years of shuttling to Australasia.
