Moonee Valley Double for So You Think

So You Think had a double of impressive winners at Moonee Valley on Saturday with Rousseau (4g So You Think x Solar Rock, by Encosta de Lago) saluting for Star Thoroughbreds and Gentleman Roy (5g So You Think x La La Land, by Last Tycoon) winning his fourth race from just eight starts.

The Chris Waller trained Rousseau won at Moonee Valley last November and again showed his liking for the circuit when bolting away under a clever ride by Damien Oliver to win the Benchmark 70 event over 2040m by nearly four lengths.

“I’m sick of farcically run races as we saw in the first few – ridiculously slow tempo and it was just no hope where I was,” Oliver said of his mid race move to surge forward.

“I wasn’t interfering with the horse, he was spending no petrol and it was the best thing I did.

“The tempo completely came out of the race mid-race … he was bold and he kept going, it was a good effort.“

A $150,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Glastonbury Farm draft for Star Thoroughbreds / Randwick Bloodstock Agency, Rousseau has won four races and placed eight times from 23 starts earning nearly $300,000 in prizemoney.

Rousseau is the first winner from Solar Rock, a winning Encosta de Lago mare from the family of champion sire Fastnet Rock.

The Lindsay Park team have been patient with progressive gelding Gentleman Roy, who has won three of his four starts this preparation with today’s victory coming in a Benchmark 70 event over 1600m.

He drew the outside in the field of seven and 60.5kg to carry, but Gentleman Roy proved much the best powering away to win by two lengths.

Retained to race by his breeders, Gentleman Roy has four wins and two placings from eight starts with prizemoney topping $136,000.

Gentleman Roy is a half-brother to $1.2million earning stakes-winner Jacquinot Bay from good producer La La Land.
