More Fastnet Winners
Saluting at Warwick Farm on Saturday was the Chris Waller trained Berrimilla (3f Fastnet Rock x Purrfection, by Tale of the Cat), a $150,000 purchase from the Widden Stud draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Berrimilla is raced by the Ingham family and scored a tenacious half head win over 1300 metres, her second win from just four starts.
Waller described Berrimilla as a "stakes horse of the future” after she overcame a chequered run in the straight to score.
"It took me a little while to get her organised and when I did I thought righto I’m going to win now, win by half a length but I did start to worry 100 [metres] out,” said winning rider Hugh Bowman.
"My filly sustained her gallop and it was a good win in the end.”
Berrimilla is the first winner for Group II placed Tale of the Cat filly Purrfection (NZ), a half-sister to Group I New Zealand Oaks winner Boundless from the family of current multiple Kiwi Group I winner Veyron.
Also successful on Saturday was highly promising filly Demasheen (2f Fastnet Rock Shimo Star, by Centaine), who posted her second win from just four starts when winning at Morphettville.
The Robert Smerdon trained filly created headlines last year when she topped the 2011 NZB Ready to Run Sale after being purchased for $450,000 by Bahen Bloodstock on behalf of Mosheen’s owner Phil Sly.
