More Stakes Goals for Fastnet Rock Filly
Lightly raced three-year-old filly Stay Alert (3f Fastnet Rock x Starfala, by Galileo) landed her first Black Type success in the Listed Greatwood Stakes (1m2f) at Newbury.
Unraced at two, the Hughie Morrison trained daughter of Fastnet Rock broke her maiden at her second start before placing in a Listed race behind Nashwa, who was third in the Group I Epsom Oaks.
Stay Alert scored a length victory under Josephine Gordon to beat the race favourite Golden Lyra.
"I thought she was impressive and won with a bit in hand," her trainer told Racing TV.
"She showed a bit more speed than she had in the past today - I probably should have run her in the Oaks! Though I'm not sure Epsom would be her track.
"That was seen as a very good race today. I'd like to think we'd beat the one who beat us last time (Nashwa) if they were to meet over a mile and a half, though I understand she's dropping in trip next time.
"I think we'll have a look at Haydock if she's in good form and it's proper ground at Haydock ahead of the Lancashire Oaks.
"If that goes well then you might have a look at the Yorkshire Oaks and maybe even the St Leger - why not? I trained her sister (Star Rock) who stayed well but was hard to keep sound."
Retained to race by her breeders the Arbib Bloodstock Partnership, Stay Alert is a full sister to stakes-winner Star Rock and is one of five winners from five to race out of Group II placed Galileo mare Starfala.
Starfala is from stakes-winner Farfala, a full sister to Group I winner Fragrant Mix and Alpine Rose.
Stay Alert is the 188th stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock and is the 27th bred from a daughter of Galileo.
This super successful nick runs at 73% winners to runners and 20% SW to runner.
