More Stakes Success for Holy Roman Mare Sheidel
Talented mare Sheidel (4m Holy Roman Emperor x Laventour, by Metal Storm) has hit top form during the summer, landing her third successive stakes race when capturing the Listed WATC Schweppes Summer Scorcher Stakes at Ascot in Perth on Saturday.
Prepared by David Harrison, Sheidel was up on the pace from the start and fought on gamely to win the 1000 metre scamper by a nose.
Retained to race by her breeder, Sheidel has the imposing record of 11 wins and two seconds from 15 starts with prizemoney topping $648,000.
One of three Australian stakes-winners this season for Holy Roman Emperor, she is a half-sister to stakes-winner Latoria and is the best of three winners from Laventour, a half-sister by Metal Storm to Group III winner Track Jester.
Best known in the Southern Hemisphere as the sire of Caulfield Cup hero Mongolian Khan, Holy Roman Emperor has just completed a season at Coolmore Australia following an absence of five years.
