New Aussie Stakes-Winner for Galileo
Honest gelding Jacquinot Bay (6g Galileo x LA La Land, by Last Tycoon) posted his first Black Type win when taking out the Listed Canberra Cup over 2000 metres on Sunday.
Prepared by Guy Walter, Jacquinot Bay scored by the best part of a length taking his overall record to eight wins from 18 starts with prizemoney just shy of $400,000.
"He’s been such an honest horse,” Walter said.
"He’s been pretty harshly treated under the benchmark system with the type of races that were on he’s had to carry a lot of weight.”
"It all turned out very good though. He (Kerrin McEvoy) rode a magnificent race.”
Not offered for sale at public auction, Jacquinot Bay comes from the fifth and final Australian conceived crop of the champion sire Galileo.
He is the third foal of Last Tycoonmare La la Land a half-sister stakes-winner Wake Me Not.
La la Land has a colt foal by So You Think and was covered by High Chaparral (IRE) last spring.
Jacquinot Bay is the 155th stakes-winner worldwide for Galileo.
