New G1 Horse for Pierro
Golden Slipper winning sire Pierro was making news on Saturday as the sire of the first foal produced by champion racehorse Winx and also for producing an exciting new Group I contender in Osipenko (3c Pierro x Raskova, by Henrythenavigator).
Pierro was chosen as the partner for $26million earning four time Cox Plate winner Winx last spring and she duly produced a lovely filly foal to the great delight of her owners and many fans right around the world.
Owners Peter Tighe and Debbie Kepitis released a statement.
"Both Mum and foal are healthy and doing very well,'' the statement read.
"Thank you to the amazing team who have cared for Winx and her filly throughout this journey.
"We wish Winx all the best as she starts this new chapter as a ‘Super Mum'.''
Pierro colt Osipenko is prepared by Winx’s trainer Chris Waller and while he’s unlikely to scale her heights of success, he does look to have an outstanding career ahead of him after charging home for third in the $3million Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at just his fourth start.
In a big field of 16, Osipenko settled back at the rear and unleashed a withering run out wide to grab third beaten half a length by Golden Mile and Elliptical.
“Terrific run. Only having his fourth career start. Still a little bit new but he's got a bright future,” said his rider Tim Clark.
With a win and two placings from just four starts, Osipenko has already won over $380,000 in prizemoney with more to come.
A $160,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for Kaha / Chris Waller Racing from the Valachi Downs draft, Osipenko is the first winner from stakes-placed import Raskova (USA), a half-sister to US stakes winner Dogtag from the family of champion sires Shamardal and Street Cry.
