New Stakes-Winner for Fastnet Rock
Astute Brisbane trainer Robert Heathcote produced a new stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock when five year-old gelding Bewhatyouwannabe (5g Fastnet Rock x Bella Corona, by Beautiful Crown) turned in a career best performance to win the Listed BRC Members Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
Consistent without winning in his past five runs, Bewhatyouwannabe put his best foot forward to win the 1600 metre feature by a neck.
Bred and retained to race by Andrew and Lasca Bowcock, Bewhatyouwannabe was passed in when consigned on their behalf by Widden Stud at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and has since won six of 31 starts earning over $226,000 in prizemoney
Bewhatyouwannabe is the best of four winners from five to race from stakes-winning Beautiful Crown (USA) mare Bella Corona.
After having a Snitzel foal destroyed last year, Bella Corona is due to foal again to the red hot Arrowfield sire this spring.
Bewhatyouwannabe is the 77th stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock, whose brilliant daughter Lumosty (3f Fastnet Rock x Luminous Eyes, by Bachelor Duke) thrashed the older sprinters to win with authority at Flemington over 1100 metres at her first run back from a spell.
A Group II winner in the spring, the Robert Smerdon trained Lumosty had not been seen since finishing sixth in the Group I VRC Oaks with connections immediately announcing plans for a tilt at the Group I Tatts Tiara in Brisbane in June.
