New Stakes-Winner for Galileo
A year from now, the team at Champion Thoroughbreds would like to think they’d be back at Caulfield for the big one with promising stayer Lightinthenite (5g Galileo x Tiffin, by Grand Lodge), who posted his first Black Type win in the Group III MRC David Jones Cup.
The John O’Shea trained son of Galileo started a hot favourite on the strength of his fine fourth in the Group I ATC Epsom Handicap and ran up to that good form to score a half neck win in his first attempt at the 2000 metres.
"If you look at his record he likes to win and he attacks the line,” O’Shea said.
"He has got a good turn of foot and he is down in the weights. He was strong through the line.
"It’s a nice start for him at his first go at a bit of a trip. He has got a lot of ones (wins) next to his name but we’d love to be back here this time next year hopefully running in the major event (the Caulfield Cup).”
Lightinthenite was a $77,500 purchase for Brian Grassick Bloodstock from the Suffolk Vale draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and has the overall record of six wins and four placings from 13 starts with prizemoney of $345,450.
From a female family steeped in Australian speed, he is the first foal of Grand Lodge (USA) mare Tiffin, a half-sister to stakes-winning sprinters Major and Happen.
Lightinthenite is the 122nd stakes-winner worldwide for champion sire Galile
