Olmedo (Declaration Of War) winning the G1 2000 Guineas at Paris Longchamp

Olmedo is Classic star for Declaration Of War

Last season’s champion French 2yo Olmedo (3c Declaration Of War-Super Pie, by Pivotal) became a Classic winner at three when landing the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp on Sunday.

The Declaration Of War colt showed great resilience to claim the famous prize in the closing stages of the Longchamp race and become a first-crop Classic hero for Declaration Of War.

"Today the ground was much better and we saw a different side of him,” said Rouget. “They were going pretty quick up front and it’s not easy to catch them when they get rolling on this ground, you need to have a super horse to do that.

"I need to watch it back but he looked like he got checked at one stage, but once they turned in I was confident because I knew he had that turn of foot.”

Olmedo was a 100,000 euros Arqana yearling graduate bred by Dream With Me Stable.

Winning rider Cristian Demuro added: “He has a good turn of foot and then he can accelerate again to run the others down.”
