Malaysian (Pride Of Dubai) Wins Her Maiden At Cork

Pride Of Dubai Filly Shows True Potential At Cork

Favourable ground conditions saw Malaysian (2f Pride Of Dubai - Booker, by Mastercraftsman) show her true potential when winning Wednesday’s mile maiden at Cork.

The Jessica Harrington-trained filly finished fifth on debut behind subsequent Group 1 winner Shale (Galileo), when the ground was described as soft to heavy in July. She was one of 12 to line up for Wednesday’s contest on good ground and soon led under Tom Madden, extending her advantage to over three lengths as they approached the two furlong pole. Soon ridden, she dug deep to deny Belmont Avenue (Zoffany) by a head on the line, as they drew three lengths clear of the third horse.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “We liked her at home and she is one of the horses that the lads in the yard own so I had pressure on today! She had a good run at Gowran on very heavy ground but it was nice ground today and she knew her job in front. She is a nice filly going forward and will definitely improve a lot.”

Owned by SC Khaw, Mrs Cooper, Jessie’s Brat Pack and Elaine Lawlow, Malaysian was bred by Sue Ann Foley and David Wachman out of the highly-rated Booker. She hails from the first Northern Hemisphere crop of Pride Of Dubai, who was crowned champion first season sire in Australia. His European juveniles include Listed winner Fancy Man and Group 3 winner Star Of Emaraaty.
