Pride of Jenni Crowned Australian Horse of the Year
It was all about Pride of Jenni (7m Pride of Dubai x Sancerre, by O’Reilly) at the star-studded Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards last night at the Wolf Blass Event Centre at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide.
The Ottobre family took to the stage twice as the super mare claimed Champion Middle Distance horse and the overall Australian Racehorse of the Year for 2023/2024.
Clearly a standout with the judges, the multiple Group I winner etched her name in history with her daylight victory in the in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes the highlight performance of any horse during the season.
Trained by Ciaron Maher, Pride of Jenni prevailed in a competitive season edging out her rivals in the Middle Distance category over the likes of Mr Brightside, Fangirl and Romantic Warrior.
The Ottobre family paid an emotional tribute to their daughter Jenni who displayed those same unique qualities and told the audience of how her memory lives on through this wonderful mare.
Pride of Jenni has the overall record of eight wins and 11 placings from 32 starts with prizemoney of $9.1million and there is more to come with races such as the Group I ATC King Charles Stakes and MVRC Cox Plate on her agenda.
A $100,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Segenhoe Stud draft for Tony and Lynn Ottobre’s Cape Schanck Stud, Pride of Jenni was bred by Trelawney Stud and is the first foal of winning O’Reilly mare Sancerre, a daughter of Group I Queensland Oaks winner Vouvray.
Pride of Jenni is one of four Group I winners for Pride of Dubai, who is unbeatable value at a fee of $22,000.
