Promising Winner for Fastnet
The Mark Kavanagh trained Crookhaven (3g Fastnet Rock x Flying Dansino, by Fusaichi Pegasus) posted his second win from five starts when scoring at Flemington on New Year’s Day.
The three year-old broke his maiden at Sandown last start at the end of November, but was jumping up in class here to a Ratings 78 event and despite being easy in the market was always in contention and fought on strongly to win the 1400 metre event by half a head.
Glen Boss was effusive in his praise following the win of Crookhaven, declaring him an untapped talent.
“I’m tipping that he’s a Group horse,” Boss said.
“If he’s not a Group horse then I’m not here.
“He has a great physique, a beautiful action and a good temperament and he has no idea what he’s here for at the moment. It’s like he’s a 10-year-old playing open football, that’s what it feels like.
“He’s in the right stable and I’ll make a prediction here right now that he can win a Group race in the next 12 months.”
Crookhaven was a $90,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Pacific Bloodstock from the draft of Bylong Park Thoroughbreds, who have had plenty of luck breeding Fastnet Rock’s including star filly Mosheen and Magic Millions winner Driefontein.
Crookhaven is the second winner for stakes-placed Flying Dansino, a half-sister to stakes-winner Zagreb from the family of Group I winner Leica Smile.
