Promising Winner for Pierro
A $460,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for Cameron Cooke Bloodstock in 2022, promising filly Time to Chat (3f Pierro x Special Memories, by Fastnet Rock) broke the ice in style at Sandown on Wednesday.
Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Time to Chat has made steady progress through her first three starts, but the addition of blinkers and step up to 1600m proved a winning move.
She travelled well all the way for Blake Shinn and kicked away down the straight to score by a length and a half.
Stable representative Jack Turnbull was pleased with the performance and believes more wins are in store.
"She had a lovely run in transit, they went even. She got there early enough but to her credit, the last 100 metres I thought were her best," he said.
"She really stretched and lengthened… I think she maintains (the campaign) for sure, she's in the right time of year and got a bit of scope too.”
Blake Shinn felt blinkers were very beneficial for Time to Chat.
“She was more switched on coming out of the gates, so the blinkers made my job a lot easier,” said Shinn.
“Being in that position outside the leader, she had a very soft time and won well, sustaining a good gallop to the line.”
Purchased from the Phoenix Park draft at Karaka, Time to Chat is the second winner from two to race from stakes-placed Fastnet Rock mare Special Memories, a sister to Group I ATC Australian Oaks winner Unforgotten from a family packed with European stakes-winners and Group I winners Matiara and Indonesienne.
Special Memories produced a Home Affairs colt last soring and is back in foal to him again.
