Promising Wootton Bassett Colt Goes One Better
Al Mudhaffar (3c Wootton Bassett – Fairly Fair, by Sinndar) built on a promising debut to justify short-priced favouritism in Friday’s mile maiden at Dundalk.
The Joseph O’Brien-trained colt was reunited with Dylan Browne McMonagle, who had ridden him to finish second over course and distance last month. Racing prominently throughout, the bay led from two furlongs out and kept on well approaching the final furlong. He went on to win by two lengths from Natural Ruler (Ten Sovereigns), with another three lengths back to the third.
“He quickened up well and has improved plenty,” the winning rider said. “The way he has got to the line, he should have no trouble going up in trip. He has got a good attitude.”
Al Mudhaffar was bred by Corduff Stud and is owned by Al Mamoura and Al Shaqab Racing.
