Record Breaking Win for Nechita
Fastnet Rock may have lost two of his potential spring headliners in Atlantic Jewel and She’s a Fox to injury, but he now has a likely replacement in Nechita (3f Fastnet Rock x Artistique, by Peintre Celebre) , who made a one act affair of the Group III ATC Silver Shadow Stakes at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
The John Thompson trained filly scored a facile debut win back in June and was immediately spelled for the spring, a move that now looks like paying dividends tenfold.
Tuned up with a recent barrier trial win, Nechita was sent to the post a short priced favourite despite taking on a field of seasoned stakes class fillies and lived up to her potential with a sizzling victory.
She travelled sweetly in fifth position and when asked to go forward in the straight, smoothly accelerated to surge away and win the 1200 metre dash by the best part of two lengths eased down and broke Skating's 20 year old race record in the process.
“It was as we expected – awesome,” said winning rider Christian Reith.
“She’s still got a lot of improvement fitness wise to come and she had a nice easy day within herself. She’s something pretty special.”
Bred by Jason Abrahams of Champion Thoroughbreds, Nechita was a $130,000 purchase for Patinack Farm from the Edinglassie Stud draft at the 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has already won $137,800 in winning each of her two starts to date.
She is the second winner from two to race for former handy metropolitan winner Artistique, a half-sister by Peintre Celebre to stakes-winners Winona and Chiming Lass.
Nechita is the 35th stakes-winner for Australia's reigning champion sire Fastnet Rock.
