Sea Siren Makes History

Fastnet Rock has sired some freakishly good three year-old fillies this season with Sea Siren (3f Fastnet Rock x Express a Smile, by Success Express) putting herself right up there with Atlantic Jewel and Mosheen after becoming the first filly in history to win the Group I BRC Doomben 10,000. Partnered again by Jim Cassidy, Sea Siren jumped smartly and quickly crossed to the rails to take a sit behind the leader Adebisi. She enjoyed a perfect run in transit and when asked for an effort in the straight she surged to the lead, going on to beat perennial Group I bridesmaid Buffering by a short neck in the 1350 metre sprint. A homebred for Keith Biggs, Sea Siren has won five races and placed twice from seven starts and has won $883,330 in prizemoney. "This filly is building an imposing record,” O’Shea said. "She beat a great horse like Buffering who’s been punching around against Black Caviar and the like in Melbourne. "There’s no better sprinters than those in the world so she has really stamped herself today.” Jim Cassidy was full of praise for the filly who has now won Group I sprints against older horses at her past two starts. “She’s such a push button filly. She’s still got a few hurdles to climb but she’s going to go along way this filly,” he said. "She’s a real little pro.” Sea Siren will now progress to the $1 million Group I Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 9 where a re-match with Buffering is on the cards. Foaled and raised at Coolmore for her breeder, Sea Siren is a half-sister to Group II winner Lady Dehere, Group III winner Oratorio and stakes-winner Discorsi being one of seven winners from outstanding producer Express a Smile. Sea Siren is the tenth Group I winner for Fastnet Rock, who is currently leading the Australian General Sires List by earnings and stakes-winners. Fastnet Rock also posted a winning double at Rosehill courtesy of impressive first starter Destruction (2c Fastnet Rock x Storm Signal, by Keltrice) and progressive four year-old Rain Drum (4g Fastnet Rock x Gifted Spirit, by Thunder Gulch) , who scored his fifth win from 10 starts for the Gai Waterhouse stable.. Despite racing greenly, the Patinack Farm owned Destruction charged home to win well and looks to have plenty of potential.
