Second Win for Fastnet Filly
Her Diamond Rock (3f Fastnet Rock x Snow Hero, by True Hero) ran a fighting second to Cash Bound over 1200 metres on a heavy Sandown surface last Saturday and a quick back up seems to have brought her to her peak.
The Colin and Cindy Alderson trained filly settled just off the pace and loomed into contention on the turn before kicking on to win the 1400 metre Ratings 72 event by half a length at Caulfield on Saturday.
"We thought long and hard about it and I spoke to the owners about it on Thursday night and said ‘look, I would feel more comfortable about her at 1400 (metres)',” said Cindy Alderson, who trains Her Diamond Rock in partnership with her father Colin.
Alderson said multiple bouts of shin-soreness had delayed the filly's career, but Her Diamond Rock still had plenty of improvement left in her.
"She's a great little filly. She is a very professional filly,” Alderson said.
"For a horse that has only had three starts, she has improved every run. I think on the good track today, she showed a nice turn of foot.”
A $160,000 purchase from the Supreme Thoroughbreds draft at the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne, Her Diamond Rock has two wins and a second from just three starts and is one of three winners from Group II placed Snow Hero.
Fastnet Rock has been running hot this year and has 35 entries for the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January.
