Sensational Debut Win for Expensive Fastnet

It might be the off season in Sydney as we head into winter, but a brilliant debut win for the 2012 Magic Millions sale topper Bull Point (2c Fastnet Rock x Rose of Cimmaron, by Bite the Bullet) at Randwick on Monday had everybody thinking spring. Bought from the Edinburgh Park draft for $960,000 by Demi O’Byrne and James Bester Bloodstock, the Gai Waterhouse trained Bull Point kicked off his career in the 1000 metre juvenile event and despite a lack of support from punters, got the job done in style. Allowed to find his feet by Nash Rawiller, the son of champion sire Fastnet Rock settled third last as the field came to the turn, but after threading his way between runners, the dashing bay accelerated impressively to the line to win eased down by a couple of lengths. "I'll talk to Gai, but I'd say there is a good chance of him going out, he is a stakes class horse and there is nothing for him now,” said stable representative Mark Newnham. “It is good to get something on the board as a two-year-old though and get a bit of prizemoney in the bank. He is definitely a Group class horse." Bull Point runs for a syndicate that includes Coolmore and partners and was the third most expensive yearling by Fastnet Rock sold in Australasia in 2012, so is entitled to be good. He is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to stakes-winners Amah Rock and Upon This Rock (both by Fastnet Rock) and is the first foal of Rose of Cimmaron, a winning sister to Group III winner Mica’s Pride, the dam of this season’s Group II winning juvenile Criterion, Group II winner Varenna Miss and stakes-winner Silently.
