Six Straight for Callanish
Exciting prospect Callanish (4g Fastnet Rock x Dancing Doll, by Dance Floor) went on his winning way at Sandown on Wednesday posting his sixth consecutive win to remain unbeaten.
The Mick Price trained son of Fastnet Rock has gone from strength to strength this preparation and delivered the goods again for punters in the Benchmark 89 event over 1600 metres.
A reformed barrier rogue, Callanish was partnered again by Dale Smith who sent him to the front where he cruised along before fighting off all challengers to carry 60kg to a stylish length victory.
"I walk on eggshells with him because of his barrier (manners) and everything else. I don’t want to upset him,” Price said.
"We tiptoe around him but he has done a great job to progress through the grades really well and it’s time that he steps up.
"The guys behind the gates have done such a good job on him, (jockey) Dale Smith has done a good job, the stewards, the staff and everyone so it’s all good.”
A $320,000 purchase from the Curraghmore Stud draft at the 2010 NZB Premier Yearling Sale for his trainer, Callanish has won each of his six starts to date earning more than $100,000 in prizemoney.
He is a half-brother to Group III winner Dancing Daggers and is from Dancing Doll, who comes from the family of Group I winners Blevic, Universal Prince and Universal Queen.
