Smart win for Dreamworker

Well bred mare Dreamworker (4m Encosta de Lago x Timbourina, by Timber Country) provided a good result for her owner breeder Mark Alati when she scored a strong win at Canterbury on Wednesday. The Grahame Begg trained mare pulled clear to win the restricted event over 1550 metres by a length and a half with comeback rider Peter Robl in the saddle, taking her overall record to two wins and a second from nine starts. Last preparation, Dreamworker tackled some of the better fillies races including the Group I ATC Australian Oaks, so has always shown ability and now with the benefit of maturity looks ready win her share of races. Dreamworker was bred and retained to race by Mr Alati, who raced her mother Timbourina with much success and was also in the winner’s circle at Canterbury on Saturday with another Grahame Begg trained runner in Triple Six. Bought for $310,000 from the 2002 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Timbourina was trained by the late Tony Wildman and won four races and more than $500,000 in prizemoney with a career highlight win in the Group II VRC Wakeful Stakes and Group I placings in the STC Canterbury Guineas and VRC Oaks. By champion sire Encosta de Lago, Dreamworker is the second foal and second winner for the daughter of Timber Country, who is also the dam of a two year-old colt by Rock of Gibraltar called Stone Age and a filly by High Chaparral born this spring. Timbourina is now back in foal to Fastnet Rock.
