Smart Winner for Fastnet
Creating a big impression at Moonee Valley on Friday night was promising filly For Lulu (3f Fastnet Rock x Cats Whisker, by Fusaichi Pegasus ), whose full brother will be offered next month by Coolmore at the 2015 Magic Millions.
A brilliant winner at Cranbourne when resuming from a spell, the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained For Lulu looked every bit as good when repeating the performance against tougher opposition in a Benchmark 70 event, coasting home to win the 1200 metre sprint by two and a quarter lengths.
Ridden by Michael Walker, she led throughout and was never in danger of defeat.
"She found the lead easy and was very professional. She’s very smart, I know David has some good races in mind for her and she impresses me as the type that can be competitive in better races for sure,” Walker said.
Foaled and raised at Coolmore for her breeder Joy Jenkins, For Lulu was retained to race by Mrs Jenkins and partners and has won two of four starts with the best still to come.
"She’s a very nice filly and David (Hayes) has got ideas of black type races for her,” said stable foreman Bruno Rouge-Serret.
"There’s no hurry, we’ll just take her along quietly but she’s a very smart horse.”
A full sister to metro winner This Cat Rocks, she is the second foal and second winner for Cats Whisker.
Mrs Jenkins also bred and raced Cats Whisker, who won six races and nearly $600,000 in prizemoney with highlight wins in the Group II VRC Let’s Elope Stakes and Rose of Kingston Stakes.
A daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, Cats Whisker has been to Fastnet Rock in each stud season to date since she retired and has a yearling colt by the champion sire heading to Magic Millions in 2015 to be offered by Coolmore as Lot 141.
She has also foaled again this spring producing another filly by Fastnet Rock.
