Smart Wootton Bassett Colt Remains Unbeaten

The well-regarded Lord Wootton Cen (2c Wootton Bassett – Barleysugar, by Kheleyf) made it two from two in Friday’s two-year-old conditions race at Saint-Cloud.

The Victoria Head-trained colt justified strong support on debut last month and was sent off favourite to follow up under Christophe Soumillon. Tracking the leaders for much of the mile contest, he was switched to the inside approaching the two furlong marker and was ridden to lead a furlong from home. He ran on well to deny the challenging Fly Half by a short neck on the line.

Owned and bred by Yeguada Centurion, the Wootton Bassett colt holds an entry in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.
