So You See a Horse to Follow
While current flagbearer Think It Over (6g So You Think x Personal Service, by Zabeel) had to settle for second in the $1.5million Group I VRC Australian Cup at Flemington, So You Think still had a productive Saturday with progressive gelding Rousseau (5g So You Think x Solar Rock by Encosta de Lago) saluting at Rosehill, while exciting filly So You See (3f So You Think x Lady Cumquat, by Duke of Marmalade) had everyone talking after the Group II VRC Kewney Stakes (1600m).
Trained by Mike Moroney, So You See won on debut at Pakenham by daylight last month and was well supported in the betting for the Group II Kewney despite taking on seasoned stakes fillies at just her second start.
So You See settled last in the field of 10 and charged to the line despite being hampered by other runners to finish a close fourth beaten a length by stakes-winners Barb Raider, Argentia and Mokolua.
She missed Black Type this time, but will be the horse to follow from the race.
Retained to race by her breeders, So You See is bred to be top class and is the first winner from Group III winning Duke of Marmalade mare Lady Cumquat, a sibling to NZ Horse of the Year and triple G1 winner Bonneval, Group winners Lord Arthur, Imposing Lass and Full of Spirt, plus stakes-winner and G1 New Zealand Derby place-getter Frontman.
The powerful Chris Waller stable struck at Rosehill with Rousseau taking out the final race, a Benchmark 78 event over 1900m.
A winner at Moonee Valley two starts back, Rousseau has been racing consistently for his big group of Star Thoroughbreds owners and has the overall record of five wins and nine placings from 25 starts with earnings just shy of $400,000.
A $150,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Star Thoroughbreds/ Randwick Bloodstock from the Glastonbury Farm draft, Rousseau is the first winner for Solar Rock, whose dam is a sister to champion sire Fastnet Rock.
More wins in store for Rousseau, whose sire So You Think has 13 entries for Inglis Easter.
