So You Think Stayer Wins G1 Sydney Cup
From 1600m to 3200m, So You Think was the dominant force on Day Two of The Championships at Randwick with his prowess as a staying sire highlighted by Irish bred Knight’s Order (7g So You Think x Lamanka Lass, by Woodman).
Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Knight’s Order won the Group II BRC Brisbane Cup last year over 3200m and again showed his liking for the marathon trip when leading all the way for Rachel King to score a two length win.
He was able to take full advantage of barrier one and a light weight with the heavy conditions also playing to his favour.
“It’s a fantastic feeling, we’ve got a great bunch of owners here involved with this horse, they really enjoyed that win. It was very satisfying to be able to deliver for them,” Bott said.
“He loved the conditions, so I was really confident with him in regards to that.
“He’s had a great lead-up building towards this particular race. He’s had plenty of miles, he’s proven over the two miles before as a Brisbane Cup winner, so I was confident on a lot of fronts there.
“He just needed things to go our way in the race. When Rachel (King) was able to dictate in the way that she did, it was a really calculated ride by her so she’s got to take a lot of credit for that. She was able to give him every chance and opportunity from there and he was too strong.”
Knights Order has won eight of 26 starts earning over $1.8 million in prizemoney.
Purchased for 250,000 guineas by from the 2018 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale by McKeever Bloodstock/ Gai Waterhouse Racing, Knights Order is a half-brother to Group II winner Dark Islander from good producer Lamanka Lass, who has left nine winners from 11 foals to race.
Knight’s Order became the eighth Group I winner for So You Think with his memorable Sydney Cup victory.
