South African Stakes-Winner for Fastnet Rock
Champion sire Fastnet Rock featured with a new stakes-winner in South Africa on the weekend with Ilitshe (3g Fastnet Rock x Reem Albaraari, by Sadler's Wells) taking out the Listed Derby Trial at Turffontein.
The Mike de Kock trained gelding won the 2000 metre staying test by a head and has now won three of five starts for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa’s Al Adiyaat South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
A bargain $15,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Colm Santry Bloodstock from the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft, Ilitshe is a half-brother to dual Group I winner Morshdi, the Champion 3YO of Italy and Germany in 2001.
He is the sixth winner from the now retired import Reem Albaraari, a daughter of champion sprinter Habibti.
Ilitshe is the 59th stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock.
