South African Stakes-Winner for Rock of Gibraltar
Progressive Australian bred mare Sunshine Rock (4m Rock of Gibraltar x Summer Angel, by Desert Sun) scored her first Black Type success in the Listed Laisserfaire Stakes at Kenilworth in South Africa on Saturday.
The Dennis Drier trained daughter of Rock of Gibraltar raced away to win the 1100 metre sprint by two lengths, her overall record an impressive four wins and a second from five starts.
Sunshine Rock was a $35,000 purchase for Nils Haug from the 2010 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and was consigned by Bowness Stud.
She is the second foal and only winner to date for Summer Angel, a metropolitan winning Desert Sun mare from the family of Group I winners Boardwalk Angel, Coogee Walk, Distill and Crawl.
Sunshine Rock is the 79th stakes-winner worldwide for Rock of Gibraltar, who has just three yearlings from his last Australian crop entered for the 2013 Magic Millions.
