Stakes Double for Fastnet Rock
Champion sire Fastnet Rock posted an early stakes double at Caulfield on Saturday with a debut success for Missrock (2f Fastnet Rock x Miss Judgement, by Strategic) followed by a stylish victory in the Group III MRC Thoroughbred Club Stakes for Serene Majesty (3f Fastnet Rock x Custard, by Lonhro).
Ridden a little more quietly than in recent runs, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Serene Majesty (pictured) found the line strongly for Kerrin McEvoy at her first run in Melbourne.
She forged clear to win the 1200 metre sprint by a length and a half, her second win from just four starts with prizemoney topping $133,000.
"She’s got a great turn of foot but she’s been over-racing early in her races in Sydney so today when she relaxed so well, I always thought she was going to come with a really good turn of foot,” Snowden said.
"She’s a very genuine filly and a very honest filly. She’s a filly with good ability and she keeps getting better.”
A $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Kitchwin Hills from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Serene Majesty runs for a syndicate that includes many of the Black Caviar owners such as Neil Werrett.
She was bred by Segenhoe and is from stakes-winning Lonhro mare Custard from the family of speedy stakes-winners such as Fravashi, Pure Joy and Russian Caravan.
Serene Majesty brought up the second leg of a stakes-winning double with earlier success for the Robbie Laing trained Missrock in the Listed MRC Inglis Debutant Stakes.
A $500,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Cressfield draft, Missrock sprinted away to win the 1000 metre dash by the best part of a length with the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes next year an obvious future target.
Missrock and Serene Majesty are the 85th and 86th stakes-winners for champion sire Fastnet Rock.
