More Stakes-Success for Fastnet Sprinter
Talented sprinter Kaepernick (6g Fastnet Rock x Volcadam, by Stravinksy) scored a career best win at Randwick on Saturday in the Group III ATC Southern Cross Stakes.
Transferred to John O’Shea last year, Kaepernick was a good last start fourth to Group I winner Viddora in the Magic Millions Sprint and ran up to that form when powering home from last to win the 1200 metre dash by a long head.
"He travelled really comfortably throughout the run," said winning rider Brenton Avdulla.
"I got to the corner with a bit of horse and I just didn't want them to get too far ahead of me so I just let him slide and I got there a little quicker then I wanted to but to his credit he kept toughing it out.
"He's a good, genuine, tough galloper that has a good turn of speed when he can use it the right way."
A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Broadwater Thoroughbreds draft, Kaepernick was bred by Jonathan Munz, whose Pinecliff Racing Syndicate still shares in his ownership
Already a stakes-winner, he has the overall record of eight wins and seven placings from 29 starts with prizemoney topping $670,000.
He is the best of five winners from stakes-winning Stravinsky (USA) mare Volcada, who is out of a half-sister to Group I winner Ideal Planet.
