Tanby on Track for Cups
Australian bred stayer Tanby (6g Galileo x Dane Belltar, by Danewin) showed he was on track for a good spring campaign with a strong finishing win in the Listed VRC The Bart Cummings at Flemington on Saturday.
A $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Mill Park Stud, Tanby has always been highly touted by Team Williams and the improving stayer put his best foot forward to defeat fellow Cups bound galloper Mayluckyday by a length in the 2520 metre staying test.
“We’ve always had a big opinion of this horse coming through the grades,” Nick Williams said.
“I think it was a pretty soft win in the end and I’d be surprised if Ollie (winning rider Damien Oliver) wasn’t impressed by him as he didn’t have the best run in transit but he put pay to them very easily.
“It [his next start] will be either the Caulfield Cup or the Moonee Valley Cup, we’ll just have to see how he pulls up.”
Tanby has won eight races and placed another six times from 21 starts for career earnings of $430,355 and is from top class producer Dane Belltar, a Group III winning daughter of Danewin.
