Tasmanian Oaks Quinella for Coolmore Sires
Coolmore sires provided the quinella in the Listed Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) at Launceston on Sunday with Chequerboard (3f Fastnet Rock x Chi, by Zabeel) posting a length and a half win over Queen Adele (3f Adelaide x Demandz, by Lonhro).
Trained by the Lindsay Park team, Chequerboard won her first two starts last year as a late season juvenile, but has taken time to hit her form at three.
Sent to Tasmania, Chequerboard was second at her previous start in the Listed Stitt Stakes behind boom Tasmanian filly Hela and stepped it up a notch for this assignment to post her first Black Type success.
Chequerboard was passed in as a yearling at Karaka and runs for a syndicate headed by Coolmore and partners.
She has three wins and four placings from 10 starts with earnings topping $170,000.
Chequerboard is the best of two winners from Chi, an unraced Zabeel half-sister to Group II winner What Can I Say, stakes-winner Wry Hero and to the grand-dam of Group I winner Invader.
Chequerboard is the 169th stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock, who had a Group II double on Saturday with Parure and Rocket Spade.
