Third 2015 Royal Ascot win for amazing Zoffany
Illuminate (2f Zoffany-Queen Of Stars, by Green Desert) continued a dream Royal Ascot for first-season sire Zoffany when capturing the G3 Albany Stakes on Friday.
She was following Waterloo Bridge (2c Zoffany-Miss Childrey, by Dr Fong), winner of the G2 Norfolk Stakes on Thursday, and Washington DC (2c Zoffany-How´s She Cuttin´, by Shinko Forest), who took the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes on Tuesday.
Richard Hughes partnered the Richard Hannon-trained Illuminate to justify 4/1 favouritism when scoring by a length and a half in the Albany Stakes.
There had been concerns about the fast ground for Illuminate. "As soon as we went to post I realised there was nothing to worry about," said Hughes. "She absolutely floated down. I would say that I was 20 lengths off the leader at halfway but she travelled real good and moved real good. She moves like a filly that will stay, she doesn't move like a sprinter - she has a great action."
Illuminate, who was bred by Epona Bloodstock, is bound for the G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket next month. "She's a very good filly. We always thought she was good and she's the most straightforward filly you could wish for,” said Hannon.
Illuminate’s stablemate Spongy (2c Zoffany-Eminence Gift, by Cadeaux Genereux) scored at Leicester on Thursday evening to give Zoffany another success while 24 hours earlier the Kevin Ryan-trained Bint Aldar (2f Zoffany-Maggie Lou, by Red Ransom) had won a Hamilton maiden.
