Three in a Row for Vancouver 2YO
Progressive colt Overpass (2c Vancouver x Walkway, by Exceed and Excel) went on his winning way at Gosford on Saturday notching his third consecutive win for the Bjorn Baker stable.
He had a tough run from a wide gate, but powered to the line under Josh Parr to win the $125,000 juvenile event over 1200m by a length and a quarter.
"I thought it was a massive win today, caught deep. It didn't work out with looking to be positive, but he just didn't have that gate speed and he looks like he's going to get over further as well. Really big win," Baker said.
"You've got to look at Queensland, we might do a little winter sojourn up there."
A $75,000 Inglis Easter Round 2 purchase for Darby Racing / Will Johnson Bloodstock from the Corumbene Stud draft, Overpass has won three of four starts and has already won nearly double his purchase price, banking over $143,000 in prizemoney.
He was bred by Corumbene and is the fourth winner from four to race from Exceed and Excel mare Walkway who comes from the family of Australian Horse of the Year Northerly.
Vancouver has sired 35 winners of over $2.1 million in prizemoney this season highlighted by stakes-winners Yaletown and Night Raid and stands at $22,000 this spring.
