Turret on top for Fastnet in G3
Trainer Jim Bolger has some international plans for Turret Rocks (5m Fastnet Rock-Beyond Compare, by Galileo) following the game Fastnet Rock mare’s G3 success at Leopardstown on Thursday evening.
Bred by Bolger’s wife Jackie, the ever-reliable five-year-old won the G2 May Hill Stakes as a juvenile and also scored in G3 company last season.
Ridden on Thursday by Kevin Manning, she pounced late to claim the nine-furlong G3 Meld Stakes and Bolger is now looking at overseas targets.
"She was very good and she got some super assistance from the saddle. She wasn't going to give it away anyway,” said the trainer. "After that we'll probably keep her to a mile-and-a-quarter or less.
"Probably the best mile-and-a-quarter race to come is the G1 Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp on Arc day but the only problem with that is she doesn't like soft ground so we have to be careful.
"She might get an invite to Hong Kong after that and I'll have to take out my passport again! She is out of a full-sister to Cimeara's dam and both those mares are by Galileo which doesn't stop them either."
