Vancouver’s Night Raid Claims Second Stakes Victory
A stakes-winner at Moonee Valley back in the spring, talented filly Night Raid (3f Vancouver x Raid, by Pins) looked well placed in the Listed SAJC Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Monday and duly saluted with Jamie Kah in the saddle.
Prepared by Mick Price and Mick Kent Jr, Night Raid was luckless when finishing out of the placings when resuming from a spell at Moonee Valley in late February, but quickly recaptured her best form in Adelaide.
She raced forward for Kah and kicked clear when turning for home before holding off a challenge from Second Slip to win by three-quarters of a length.
“She was well in with a light weight and Jamie rode her so well,” said co trainer Mick Kent, who credited her co purchaser Sheamus Mills for finding the race in the calendar.
“She’s a high quality filly in perfect order and now she’s won two stakes races.”
A $160,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft for Sheamus Mills Bstock (FBAA)/Mick Price Racing, Night Raid runs in the colours of Bill Frost’s Pendant Racing and has already won over $170,000 with three wins from seven starts.
Bred by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds in partnership, Night Raid is a half-sister to stakes-placed Mujallad and Tarismo being the fifth winner from five foals to race from stakes-winning Pins mare Raid.
Bought for $380,000 from the Bell View Park draft at the 2016 Inglis Broodmare Sale by Paul Willetts Bloodstock Consultancy for Unencumbered Syndicate, Raid is a full sister to the dam of dual Group I winner Stratum Star and last season’s promising Group III winning colt Prague, the family tracing back to champion racemare Emancipation.
Night Raid is the best offspring so far in Australia for Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, whose oldest progeny are just three year-olds.
