Wednesday Winning Double for Vancouver
Promising young sire Vancouver posted a winning double on Wednesday thanks to Anotherthinkcomin’ (3g Vancouver x Candela, by Stryker) and progressive filly Thunder Peak (3f Vancouver x Serein, by Postponed), who scored at Sandown.
Trained by Mike Moroney, Thunder Peak came with a well timed run for Jamie Kah to win the 1300m contest by a neck as favourite.
“A drop back in distance (1400 to 1300) and blinkers on was ideal for her,” said Mike Moroney.
“She did it tough being three wide throughout the race so we thought it was a really good effort for that reason.”
Bought by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm for $55,000 from the Aquis draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, she subsequently passed in as a yearling with her ownership now shared by Ballymore Stables, Rupert Legh Racing and Lauriston.
With two wins and a second from five starts, Thunder Peak is yet to finish further back than fifth and looks to have a bright future. She is the first winner for stakes-placed Serein, who comes from the family of Group III winner Rezone and stakes-winner Danyon.
Thunder Peak was the second winner on Wednesday for Vancouver joining Anotherthinkcomin’, who was an impressive winner at Wyong at his second start.
