Swagman (Wootton Bassett) Wins His Maiden At Naas

Wootton Bassett Colt Comes Out On Top At Naas

The promising Swagman (2c Wootton Bassett – Secretina, by Galileo) produced a game performance to justify favouritism in Saturday’s seven furlong maiden at Naas.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt finished third behind more experienced horses at the Curragh last month and was partnered by Jack Cleary on his second start. Racing prominently throughout, he was ridden from two furlongs out and ran on well to score by a head, as several rivals challenged.

“He had a lovely run the first day at the Curragh and he's come on nicely since,” said Ballydoyle representative Chris Armstrong. “He's a lovely horse and we're probably going to see the best of him next year.”

Armstrong added that next month’s El Gran Senor Stakes at Tipperary could be next on the agenda for Swagman. The son of Wootton Bassett is owned by Coolmore partners and was bred by Gestut Brummerhof.
