Back-To-Back Group Wins For Globetrotting Tower Of London

Tower Of London (4c Galileo – Dialafara, by Anabaa) completed an international Group double for the late Galileo on Saturday when running out a commanding winner of the Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt proved progressive last season and returned last month to land a valuable Group 3 at Riyadh. He was sent off favourite to follow up at Meydan, where Ryan Moore settled him towards the back of the field and began to make headway from two furlongs out. Quickening well when asked, he led inside the final 100 yards and went on to win by two lengths going away.

Speaking after the race, O’Brien said, “He's an Ascot-type horse, he could go for the Hardwicke – or something like the Coronation Cup. Ryan was very adamant he doesn't need to go two miles. I don't think Ryan thought he'd get the Gold Cup trip. He's classy.”

Bred by Lynch Bages and Camas Park Stud, Tower Of London is owned by Coolmore partners with Westerberg. He is a full-brother to three Group winners, including dual Classic winner Capri (Galileo).

Earlier that day at Rosehill, former Ballydoyle inmate Serpentine (7g Galileo – Remember When, by Danehill Dancer) recorded back-to-back black-type wins in the Group 3 Sellwood Stakes.

The son of Galileo was headed entering the final furlong, but battled back to beat 2023 victor Zeyrek by half a length under Tim Clark. The Coolmore-bred chesnut is now trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott for Nick and Lloyd Williams. His first Stakes win came in impressive fashion, when making all to win the Group 1 Epsom Derby by five and a half lengths for Aidan O’Brien and Coolmore partners.
