Ballydoyle's Fairy Godmother Works Her Magic In Albany Stakes
Fairy Godmother could hardly have been more impressive when flying home to win the Group 3 Albany Stakes, providing Aidan O’Brien with his fifth win of the week so far at Royal Ascot.
Onlookers held their breath as gaps closed one after the other at a vital stage, with Ryan Moore eventually producing the favourite to make a last-dash challenge down the stands’ side. The chesnut produced an outstanding turn of foot to flash past her rivals, leading by three parts of a length on the line. Stablemate Heavens Gate (Churchill) was just a neck further back in third, finishing two lengths and three quarters clear of the fourth.
“I gave her an impossible task and she got me out of a hole,” Ryan Moore said after the race. “There was a wall of horses in front of me and around me and it’s incredible that she was able to win from that position. All credit to her, she’s a very good filly.”
O’Brien appeared unsurprised by his charge’s talent, saying, “She’s an incredible filly. Everything she’s done has always been very different, her work has always been very special. She’s only going to get better with every race. She will get stronger, she will stay and she’s very exciting.”
Fairy Godmother demonstrated her turn of foot when winning the Group 3 Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies Sprint at Naas last time out, when she reversed the placings of her debut second to Sparkling Sea (Starspangledbanner).
The exciting juvenile is owned by Coolmore partners and was bred by Paul and Marie McCartan’s Ballyphilip Stud.
