Bedtime Story The New Guineas Favourite After Scintillating Win
A breathtaking performance in the Chesham Stakes saw Bedtime Story (2f Frankel – Mecca’s Angel, by Dark Angel) shoot to favouritism in the 1,000 Guineas, just 24 hours after her Ballydoyle stablemate Fairy Godmother earned the same honour.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained filly emerged as a smart type earlier this month when winning a Leopardstown maiden and topped the market for Saturday’s Listed contest over seven furlongs. The Coolmore homebred travelled strongly throughout under Ryan Moore and was full of running three furlongs from home. Pushed along to lead two furlongs out, she quickly put the race to bed and skipped clear to win by all of nine and a half lengths.
Moore, who ended the meeting as leading rider for the 11th time, later said, “Bedtime Story travelled very easy and they've gone too slow for her really. She is a level above all of them.”
“We never let Bedtime Story go before,” an impressed Aidan O’Brien revealed. “This was the first time she was asked to stretch. Ryan said he couldn't believe it; he said everyone fell away. We thought she was probably a Group 1 filly, but thinking is one thing and seeing is another.”
Bedtime Story’s success brought O’Brien’s tally to six wins at the Royal meeting, which saw him crowned leading trainer for the 13th time.
