Continuous An Impressive St Leger Winner For Ballydoyle

Continuous (3c Heart’s Cry - Fluff, by Galileo) produced an impressive performance to run out a commanding winner of the Group 1 British St Leger, marking a seventh win in the race for Aidan O’Brien.

The beautifully-bred colt won a Group 3 to remain unbeaten as a juvenile and placed twice at Group level this season, before drawing clear in last month’s Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes. Stepping up to a mile and six furlongs for the first time on Saturday, he was settled towards the back of the field by Ryan Moore and took closer order approaching the turn for home. He produced a smart turn of foot to lead two furlongs from home and soon strode clear, going on to score by two and three quarter lengths.

“We're over the moon,” O’Brien said after the race. “He's got a lot of class, you could see it in his work every day.” Talk soon turned to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, on which the Ballydoyle maestro said, “There's every chance he could and he has all the things that could work in an Arc. It's just whether the two-week turnback is too tight or not. He has a great constitution, though.”

Ryan Moore later described Continuous as “special,” and added, “He's got a great attitude, a lot of pace and he quickens very well. He's always been really genuine and wants to do it for you.”

Like Ballydoyle’s other season headliner Auguste Rodin (Deep Impact), Continuous is a Coolmore homebred by a Japanese sire, out of a Galileo mare. Continuous is out of a highly-rated full-sister to Group 1 winner Maybe, herself the dam of dual Group 1 winner and exciting young sire Saxon Warrior (Deep Impact).
