$300,000 Colt for Mendelssohn

Mendelssohn’s November breeding stock sales started on a high note Sunday with a $300,000 colt at Fasig-Tipton November.

Purchased by Amerman Racing from the Wynnstay Sales consignment, the H. Allen Poindexter-bred is the second foal out of stakes winner and Grade III-placed American Sugar. Already the dam of a winner, American Sugar is also a half-sister to five winners including stakes-placed Love to Run.

The Iowa-bred colt also comes from the family of dual Grade I winner Sassy’s Image and Group I St. Leger third Adair among others.

Mendelssohn also saw his daughter from the family of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin bring $110,000. Out of a half-sister to stakes-placed Philanthropic, the filly purchased by American Equistock was sold by Taylor Made on behalf of Magnolia Mares LLC and Pony Express Sales, Inc.

The best-bred son of Scat Daddy, Into Mischief and Beholder’s Grade I Breeders’ Cup-winning half-brother Mendelssohn has proven to be popular with his weanlings last night averaging $161,666.

Attention now turns to the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, where Mendelssohn has 20 on offer.
