$340,000 Classic Empire Colt Kicks Off Book 2 at Keeneland

The second book of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale continued Classic Empire’s sales success on Wednesday when Hip 551 sold for $340,000.

Consigned by breeder Woods Edge Farm, the colt out of Scat Daddy’s stakes winning daughter Daddy Loves Gold was purchased by M.V. Magnier. The chesnut’s third dam is Grade III winner Timely Broad, who is also the dam of two stakes winners.

In all, there are nine stakes winners listed under the four dams on the colt’s page.

Classic Empire has proven to be popular among buyers at the Keeneland sale with his four sold bringing an average of $281,250 and median of $325,000 while grossing $1.125 million, led by a $350,000 colt in Book 1.

The Champion 2-Year-Old and Grade I winning 3-year-old Classic Empire has been a hit in the ring from the start with his first weanlings averaging $108,925 led by a $285,000 colt. His yearlings at this season’s sales offered before Wednesday have already averaged $163,350, led by a $375,000 yearling.
