$420,000 Filly Kicks Off Practical Joke’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga

Practical Joke saw bidders fighting over another one of his yearlings on Monday night when China Horse Club and Gandharvi won the battle to take home a $420,000 filly.

Offered by Paramount Sales, the filly was making her second appearance in the ring after selling at Keeneland November for $150,000 over the winter.

Bred by Gabriel Duignan, Dromoland Farm, Crosshaven Bloodstock and Petaluma, she is a half-sister to five stakes performers, led by Grade III placed Desert Dynamo and Ambusher. In all, her dam Competition has seen six her of her seven to run win a race and five add bold type to their name on the page.

Competition is a half-sister to the dam of Grade I winner Sailor’s Valentine and is a granddaughter of three-time Grade I winner Coup de Fusil. The dam of two stakes performers, Coup de Fusil’s runners were led by 24 time winner Derivative.

Competition also has a weanling Munnings colt bred by Machmer Hall.

Practical Joke keeps proving to be a top freshman sire. Continuing to impress in the sales ring, his first runners are also justifying his popularity with his eight winners the third best of all freshmen, led by Grade III winner Wit.
