$510,000 Colt Leads Mendelssohn’s Thursday Charge

Mendelssohn again lit up the Keeneland sales pavilion on Thursday when a colt out of Miss Relentless brought $510,000 from Mayberry Farm.

Offered by Lantern Hill Farm, the colt is a half-brother to three winners led by multiple stakes winner Evil Lyn and stakes winner Miss Stormy D, who is also Grade II-placed.

Their young dam is out of the Group III winner Candy Apple, who produced three winners from her four runners but is more widely known as a half-sister to champion and successful sire Candy Ride. Candy Apple is also a half-sister to Group III winner Candy Singer and to the granddam of Grade I winner Tom’s d’Etat.

Mendelssohn also saw his royally bred filly out of Dance With Another sell for $300,000 to Myracehorse.com from Glennwood Farm late in the session.

That filly is out of the winning Danehill Dancer mare Dance With Another, a half-sister to Fastnet Rock’s Grade I winner Diamondsandrubies with the pair out of Group I winner Quarter Moon, a full sister to Group I winner Quarter Moon. Other Dance With Another half siblings include Grade I-placed You’ll Be Mine and stakes placed Born to be King and How High The Moon. Diamondsandrubies also produced Grade III-placed Diamond Sparkles and You’ll be Mind produced Group III winner and multiple Group I-placed Eminent. This yearling filly’s third dam is the top broodmare Jude.

Dance With Another had a Justify colt this year.

Mendelssohn’s Book 2 yearlings sold for $900,000, $750,000, $510,000 with Mendelsohhn having 19 six-figure offerings this sale. In all, his 24 yearlings sold are averaging $254,792 with a median of $205,000.
