Adelaide Yearlings Impress at Magic Millions

The first yearlings by Cox Plate winner Adelaide received a warm reception at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale with three youngsters selling at average $131,667 representing a solid return on his initial $22,000 service fee.

Top seller for Adelaide was a lovely filly from Dancing Doll that made $170,000 for Redbank North / Huntworth Stud when bought by renowned bloodstock agent Paul Willetts.

“I liked what I saw of the Adelaide yearlings at the Magic Millions,” said Willetts.

“They appear to be well-grown, athletic with good attitudes and should make nice three-year-olds. [The filly I bought] was a lovely filly, good moving with a great attitude, rather reminiscent of a good Galileo filly.”

Corumbene Stud’s filly from Kylie made $140,000 to the bid of Gerald Ryan, while a stylish colt from Jaipur Princess made $85,000 for Coolmore Stud when snapped up by DGR Thoroughbreds/ Chris Anderson Racing.

“We went to the Magic Millions with the intention of buying an Adelaide,” said DGRA Thoroughbreds Duncan Ramage.

“We saw him perform in our own backyard with a dominant win in our greatest weight-for-age race and that gives us real comfort in a new stallion. We left the sale very happy to have bought an athletic, well-bred colt by him.”

Given the success of Coolmore’s two time Cox Plate winner So You Think, there is considerable optimism surrounding Adelaide, who scored a dominant win in Australia’s greatest weight-for-age contest and is by legendary sire Galileo.
