Amazing Mastercraftsman filly takes G3 Prestige
Amazing Maria (2f Mastercraftsman-Messias Da Silva, by Tale Of The Cat) put in a superb performance at Goodwood on Saturday to become a first-crop Group winner for Mastercraftsman.
Sir Robert Ogden's home-bred filly had been an impressive maiden winner at Glorious Goodwood and trainer Ed Dunlop returned her to the Sussex venue to prove much too good for her opposition in the G3 Prestige Stakes.
Amazing Maria made the running under Gerald Mosse and finished two and a half lengths clear of the field in the seven-furlong contest. She is rated a 16/1 chance by bookmakers for next year's G1 1,000 Guineas but first a run in the G1 Fillies' Mile could be on the cards.
"She did it very well and we have always liked her a lot," said Dunlop. "At this stage she is my best two-year-old and I'm delighted to win a stakes race with her. The ground was probably a bit softer than ideal for her, but she did it very well and we will have to think about the Fillies' Mile for her."
